The image of the Devi is similar to Manapullykavu,Vadankanthara temples etc i.e Kannaki Temple.Once in 3/4 years,a Puthur Vela is conducted complete with caprisoned elephants, fire works,Puli dance and cultural programs like Kuthu,Ottam Thullal, Kathakali etc at Kuthu Parambu. At other times it is used as Public library. As eyes of devi are marked out with a Kavacham, we call them as Kannai Amman. Kuttu Payasam of this temple is wonderful to taste and Nambuthiri Brahmin who is also the temple priest is very clean and orthodox and Pujas are done perfectly. The rates are very cheap and temple is excellently maintained . We can call it Mini-Manapully Kavu of Puthur. K.Vaidyanathan vidhar@vsnl.net I was staying at Venkaeshawrapuram and studied at Puthur school in the years 1953-54 in 3rd and 4th clas at Puthur school. The head Master was a Jain Mashu( Jain by religion) ad stayed at Vadakkanthara he used to come by cycle and was very tall.
